Pupil Premium Grant
PUPIL PREMIUM
The pupil premium is designed to address inequality by giving every school and teacher the resources they need to help their most disadvantaged pupils, allowing them the freedom to respond appropriately to individual circumstances.
The government are keen to ensure that all children have the chance to succeed in their learning. The philosophy behind ‘narrowing the gap’ effectively means that all children should do as well as possible in their education whatever their backgrounds, special needs or disabilities. To assist in ‘narrowing the gap’ schools receive pupil premium funding. This funding is allocated by the number of children:
- eligible for free school meals at any point in the past 6 years
- have been looked after for 6 months or longer
It is now a statutory duty for schools to publish details of the amount of Pupil Premium received.
