Year 1 2024 - 2025
Mrs Brady
Year 1
WELCOME to Year 1!
Year 1 Class teacher is Mrs Brady. We will also have support from Miss Sutton.
MORNING DROP OFF:
Everyone should arrive between 8.45am and 8.55am. Anyone arriving late (after 8.55am) should go to the school office where they will be let in the front door.
COLLECTION:
All children will now be going home at 3.25pm. Children should be collected from the playground via the KS1 door.
UNIFORM:
Children should wear full school uniform. Autumn 1 uniform can be either Summer uniform or Winter uniform. For details, please visit the 'Parents' tab of the website and look at the 'uniform shop' - 'school uniform guide'. It is essential that ALL uniform is named as unnamed items take much longer to reunite with their owner. Please can I also ask that you regularly check the names in your child's uniform throughout the year to check their name is still visible and in case they bring home the wrong child's clothing. This will also help speed up the return of lost clothing to their rightful owner.
PE KIT:
This year the children will come to school in their PE kit on our PE days. Our PE days during Autumn term are TUESDAYS and WEDNESDAYS.
Our PE kit should include: a white PE t-shirt (with school logo or a plain t-shirt), green shorts, socks and trainers. Green PE hoodies and joggers are also now available via the school website. (The top will probably be needed every week but the wearing of trousers or shorts will depend on the comfort of your child and the weather). Please ensure your child always has a pair of green PE shorts either on under their joggers or in their book bag so that they may work in t-shirts and shorts for indoor PE.
WHAT TO BRING INTO SCHOOL:
Water bottle - filled with clean water each day.
Coat (depending on the weather) which must be named.
Book bags.
In Year 1 free fruit is be available for the children at morning break as usual.
Year 1 children are ALL entitled to a free school meal but you may provide a packed lunch if you wish.
READING BOOKS:
This year the children will have 3 types of reading books in their book bags:
- A ‘share me’ book that your child should read to you, with some support. These can be changed on any day and this year the children will be trained to select their own book.
- A phonically decodable book which matches your child’s level of phonics knowledge to practice the graphemes they have already learned. These will be changed every Friday.
- A picture book from our class library for you to read to them.
Please make sure that you child brings their book bag every day with these books inside so they can be checked and read with on any given day. Please also make sure that you are listening to or reading with your child every day and ask them questions about what they have read. When your child has read to you could please record the date, title and any comments in their green reading journal.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with the school via email on admin@st-bedes.cheshire.sch.uk and they will pass the message on to us. I do not check my emails during the school day but I will get back to you a soon as possible. Alternatively, you can catch me in the playground at the end of the day. Many thanks for your support.
